Delay bounds for a network of guaranteed rate servers with FIFO aggregation

چکیده
To support quality of service guarantees in a scalable manner, aggregate scheduling has attracted a lot of attention in the networking community. However, while there are a large number of results available for flow-based scheduling algorithms, few such results are available for aggregate-based scheduling. In this paper, we study a network implementing Guaranteed Rate (GR) scheduling with First-In-First-Out (FIFO) aggregation. We derive an upper bound on the worst case end-to-end delay for the network. We show that while for a specific network configuration, the derived delay bound is not restricted by the utilization level on the guaranteed rate, it is so for a general network configuration.

"Pay bursts only once" does not hold for non-FIFO guaranteed rate nodes
We consider end-to-end delay bounds in a network of Guaranteed Rate (GR) nodes. We demonstrate that, contrary to what is generally believed, the existing end-to-end delay bounds apply only to GR nodes that are FIFO per flow. We show this by exhibiting a counter-example. Then we show that the proof of the existing bounds has a subtle, but important, dependency on the FIFO assumption, which was n...

With the occurrence of new applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and multimedia conference, there is an ongoing discussion about realizing QoS in the Internet today. Because of its potential scalability in support of QoS guarantees, the Differentiated Service (DiffServ) architecture with aggregate packet scheduling has recently attracted much attention in the networking community as a feasi...
متن کاملPerformance Bounds for Multiclass FIFO in Communication Networks: A Deterministic Case
Multiclass FIFO is used in communication networks such as in input-queueing routers/switches and in wireless networks. For the concern of providing service guarantees in such networks, it is crucial to have analytical results, e.g. bounds, on the performance of multi-class FIFO. Surprisingly, there are few such results in the literature. This paper is devoted to filling the gap. Specifically, a...

As a means of supporting quality of service guarantees, aggregate multiplexing has attracted a lot of attention in the networking community, since it requires less complexity than flow-based scheduling. However, contrary to what happens in the case of flow-based multiplexing, few results are available for aggregate-based multiplexing. In this paper, we consider a server multiplexer fed by sever...
متن کاملTight end-to-end per-flow delay bounds in FIFO multiplexing sink-tree networks
Aggregate scheduling has been proposed as a solution for achieving scalability in largesize networks. However, in order to enable the provisioning of real-time services, such as video delivery or voice conversations, in aggregate scheduling networks, end-to-end delay bounds for single flows are required. In this paper, we derive per-flow end-to-end delay bounds in aggregate scheduling networks ...
